Tea from the south of Japan is not contaminated!
Any concern is unnecessary
“Good news for all fans of Japanese Green Tea: After the accident in Fukushima, we have analysed our teas accurately. The result: All the samples’ measured values are below the limit of detection and were therefore labeled as safe.
The tea the samples were taken from originates from the prefecture Kagoshima in the south of Kyushu (located in southern Japan). Its tea estates are located approximately 1000 km air-line distance from Tokyo.
Even though the results were below the detection limits, AIYA refuses to sell any tea that does not origin from Kyushu, to offer a maximum level of security to our customers.
Every batch was tested thoroughly by Eurofins Scientific Dr. Specht Laboratories in Hamburg. In order to analyse the concentrations of caesium-134, caesium-137 and iodine-131 the laboratories used the technology of gamma ray spectrometry, which is said to be very reliable.
The radiation protection expert Prof. Dr. Ulrich Nöhle (Institute of Food Chemistry, University of Braunschweig) approved the test results and states that the tea can be drunk without any danger.
In Germany and Europe the new harvest will come out starting in June. From now on, AIYA will carefully examine every single delivery and publish the results. Only safe tea will be released to the market.
There is no reason to be afraid of contaminated green tea being imported to Europe and Germany.”
